Another way to look at your 3.8L is that it is a 305 Chevy with 2 center
cylinders removed. The 4.3L is a 350 with 2 removed.

So much so that my 1977 Buick Skylark with the '231 V6' (3.8L) had a
distributor cap with 8 connectors, two of which were blanked out. Had to
turn it over to see how they did that. Typical GM goofball engineering!

But that was when it was an odd-firing engine, before going to an offset
crank design(cripes - I guess I do remember a few GM gems from school).
