With such a small boat I wouldn't bother with this. Simply run an
extension cord for what you need. Ghost (My pearson 30) had a heavy
duty cord that ran right through a vent and that worked fine.
Alien has a pretty complex power system for such a small boat, but
the inverter was never installed.


I don't think I'd go as far as onboard mains power, but I'd very much like
to fit nav lights at least, so some sort of shoreside charging system would
be good. I'd rather think ahead and install a 12V system that's capable of
running some other kit further down the line (a depth sounder springs to
mind, and maybe a fixed VHF).
I guess it's natural to extrapolate and want to add an inverter to run the
laptop (though not essential - I'm unlikely to buy into all that electronic
chart stuff for the sailing I expect to do with this boat).
