This will be an interesting case that will no doubt end up in the
SCOTUS. The legal question, does the 14th amendment make offences
against a state "offenses against the United States".
We certainly have used the 14th amendment to write federal laws
against things only the states have constitutional authority over
using that logic. The drug war leaps to mind.


What's to prevent a state from having similar but not identical criminal
charges to federal crimes in its system? Couldn't NYS have a code
against money-laundering and the feds also have a statute against it?
