Default Kayak friendly couriers

Can anyone help me find a kayak friendly courier service to take a
kayak from Dundee to London? I've done this before, but many of the
couriers have changed their rules since. Some charge way too high
because they charge by volume rather than weight (66 pounds plus VAT!)
and others simply say that it's too big at 240cm long.

Heeeeeelp!! I've tried loads of them without success....even thought
of the railways, but haven't found a number to call...anyone know?

Cheers

Obviously not...

And, as I recall it was your appalling, abusive and self-centred attitude (in
another guise) which caused much of the dissent.

Wrt the courier issue: I have not had any probs getting things collected /
delivered, but I suggest describing it as a 'package' rather than a kayak or
canoe.

related, a pal was on a cycling tour on his tandem, finished as planned
at Inverness, and is told "we don't accept tandems!". Pal looks hard at
small print, finds that "packages" or somesuch are allowable if they can
be carried on, so hop on bike to local B&Q, collect mucho cardboard,
back to station and then wrap up said illegal tandem in card, and
legitimately carry it on with no problems. Sad and daft, but true.

Pete.

Default Kayak friendly couriers

In case it's any use to anyone other than me, I finally got a good
deal to courier my kayak to London from Dundee. I used:
J.R.S Logistics (Dundee) Ltd
Unit 1,Block 11 Nobel Rd,Wester Gourdie Ind Est
Dundee Angus
DD2 4UH
Tel: 01382 612020
They origonally quoted me 60 quid, but after much discussion I showed
them the boat and they took it for 20 quid! Fab.

I tried asking kayak stores, and their favoured couriers had stopped
taking kayaks! Red Star (railways) is now Lynx, who only talk to
Businesses - turds! I was even quoted 340 quid by one firm. It seem
that the uniformed dispatch centres and caged (container like) vans
are very efficient if you fit the nice package sizes they take, but if
you are a little off the norm, you're stuffed!

Thanks for all the help...

In January 2001, there were 168 people who posted almost 600 messages.
This January, 2004, there were just 39 people and 52 messages. I would
say that 'kind of deserted' was a fair description of the situation.

And, as I recall it was your appalling, abusive and self-centred attitude (in
another guise) which caused much of the dissent.

Well I would suggest that your recallections are, as seems common in a
significant number of your posts, perverted to suit your own agenda
and you're mildly paranoid view of the rest of the world.

So far as I am aware no one other than yourself, your sometime partner
in crime Mr. Kemper and a weird chap going by the handle of safer21[1]
have ever complained about my posts, in any of my guises. Seems like
only you consider my attitude "appalling, abusive and self-centred
attitude" - usenet archives exist, prove me wrong.

Secondly, no one has ever publicly stated that they were leaving this
group because of my behaviour. Sadly, the same cannot be said of
yourself. Most of the frequent and informative posters left, many
actually citing you as the reason why. A few months after you turned
up, the numbers dropped off. Or is that just coincidence?

You should be happy Allan, you have what you want, a more or less
deserted group with nothing to get in the way of your tedious
soapboxing. Insanity is simply being in a minority of one, and you're
well on your way. Enjoy!

[1] safer21 was a kook, but at least he had the decency to realise he
was being a pain in the neck and either modified his behaviour or went
away. No such luck in your case.

Look, if you are a completely new visitor to a NG like me, who has just
bought a canoe, and have absolutely no interest in petty feuding which goes
back years then you just go away, as quickly as possible. It is just not
worth the bother.

Why can't you people just button it, stop your playground squabbles and do
some good in this NG. Ask sensible questions, answer sensibly and stop being
so childish. I will call back here in another 2 months to see if things have
improved. I hope so.

No doubt you've gathered you're more likely of a friendly welcome, and
some jolly banter, on the "community" forums at

Sadly, those days are long gone. Use google and you'll see how it used to
be, in those heady days as we rolled carefree towards the start of the new
millenium.

There's nobody left here now but us bickering kids and the odd cameo
appearance from the stars of yesteryear. Shame.

Enyoy your paddling.
