![]() This photo has two stories attached: 1) it features the Asgard II which has sunk recently. 2) the motoryacht (which doens't look particularly seaworthy to me) had to be towed in by the rescue services. Due to it's unusual design, it had so muchg drag that the lifeboat had some trouble getting her back in against the tide (although she has two very large waterjets..) Regards, \ Jeroen See picture. I will post two pics of the motoryacht in tow in a few minutes. regards, Jeroen |

![]() Hi Jeronimus, You are correct, the Irish sail training brigantine Asgard II sank in the Bay of Biscay on 11th. September 2008, 37 km southwest of Belle-Īle-en-Mer. The 5 crew and 20 trainees had earlier abandoned the vessel after she started taking on water. Asgard II was heading from Falmouth to La Rochelle for some routine maintenance. A robot has been used to assess the condition of Asgard II. The inspection revealed that the vessel is upright on the seabed and largely intact in 80metres of water. Damage to one of the hull planks has been observed though it is unclear if this resulted from the impact with the seabed or was the original cause of the sinking. A decision on whether the vessel can be salvaged will not be taken until further investigations are carried out. Regards, Tuppence |
