These are my favorite ships maybe because my father,
grandfather and grandgrandfather sailed them for a living.
They brought cargo from one place to another in the shallow
waters in the north of The Netherlands.
They are called skūtsjes and have a flatbottom.
In stead of a keel they have leeboards.
Still every year the perfectly conservated ships
have a competition in racing against each other, its great to see
how people handle this ships.
We call that event every year "Skūtsjesilen" you see here some pictures from
I did not made the pictures but found them years ago on the world wide web.
So all the credits go to the fotographer.
And no, I don't have these pictures larger.

Enjoy

Very nice photos Bouler. The Skūtsjes look like they are very stable.
Wide enough so they don't heel very much.

Thanks for these and the Lighthouses.

With racing they take a lot of risk and I saw them taking to much risk so
the top hit the water and you cannot sail anymore;-)
It depends of cours on the strenght of the wind.

Thanks for these and the Lighthouses.

You're welcome.
