Mayflower II under tow eastbound in Cape Cod Canal, returning to
Plymouth, Mass, US after extensive restoration. The tug Jaguar is tied up on her port side rather than pulling her, maybe because of the following current or maybe due to the fleet of small boats surrounding her. Mayflower II is a replica of a typical vessel from the time the Pilgrims sailed to America in 1620. I've read that about 75% of the vessel was replaced in the restoration. In another place I read that the keel is original, implying that nothing else is. Due to return in spring of 2019, she has finally returned just in time for the 400-year celebrations. She is capable of sailing and after exiting the canal raised her sails for a while before being towed into Plymouth Harbor. Bob |
