"CaveLamb" schreef in bericht m... It's hard to straighten out in the mind. The terms are archaic - although important. The full rigged ship has three (or more) masts and is square rigged on all masts. Barques have three or more masts and have no squares on the mizzen. All the rest have squares. Barquentines have three or more masts but no squares on the aft two masts. Fore and aft only on the aft two masts. The difference between a barquentine and a topsail schooner is the course (lower square) on the foremast. Brigs are two masts only and square rigged on all. Brigantines have two masts and no squares on the mizzen. I like these beautiful ships but don't know all about them. -- Greetings Bouler (The Netherlands) |
