![]() Now that has resolved a mystery going back to 1945-46. In one of those two years I stayed at Ryde on the Isle of Wright (off southern parts of UK). From the top of Ryde I could see liners in the Solent and one of them was a four funnel vessel which I thought in later years could have been any one of three of four other liners. After your excellent series of the paintings by Laurence Dunn started I came to realise, after having done some Google research, that they could not have been any of the ships I had thought of, as they were either sunk in differing parts of the world or broken-up for scrap in the UK. Finally, it looks as if SS Aquitania has won the prize for, according to me, she could be about the only "four funnel'er" that could have been in that location at that time... Unless anyone else knows different; I can lay that particular ghost to rest. Thank you, Sword-edge for a fine series, I really enjoy looking at them Dave Doubleyew. "swordedge" wrote in message ... |

I think you are right Aquitania went to Faslane on the Firth of Clyde in
1950 to be scrapped. I'm very pleased that these scans have helped you solve a mystery. Best wishes, David .... Sale Cheshire. A Manchester Liners buff! |

I didn't realise theManchester Ship Canal was still operative. Shows how far behind the time I am. :-) Dave |
