Not much about boats, but given the critical nature of global events, I thought today's spirited discussions were interesting. I know I learned a few things and even had a couple of chuckles. Good luck to everybody. We're gonna need it. I even wish Obama well and hope he is ready for the challenges ahead of him. We could have done worse. We could have had Hillary. Eisboch |

I'm hopeful her brand of simple-minded "social conservatism" is dead as a national political agenda. It might still work in the stuperstitious south and in Tennessee and West Virginia, but I hope the rest of the country is sick and tired of the sort of the division it breeds. It's time for the government to get the hell out of the bedroom and the personal lives of adults, and stay out. |

Well, if it makes you feel better, even some of us right wing nut cases are tired of her. She was initially unique, added a little spark to McCain's campaign, but quickly proved herself to be completely uninformed and unqualified. The fact that she considers herself to be a serious contender in 2012 provides further proof that she is truely clueless. Eisboch |

You may regret that statement. You may have to put up with her come 2013. Obama could very likely be a 1 term candidate. The economic morass may even be worse by then after the government, which is already on the hook for about $5 trillion puts more into the mix. And like TARP, which required oversight and Congress has still not appointed anybody to the position. I doubt the R's will run her at the top of the ticket, but it may be anybody the R's run will win. Just like Obama won this time on mostly the economic meltdown, he could lose if the meltdown is still in major play. |

You see Harry, a statement like that tells all. We have no idea who will be running in 2012. We have no proof of how well or badly Obama will govern. We have no idea how well or badly a Democrat controlled Congress is going to perform. We have no idea which party or person will be best for the situation and conditions in 2012. With all these unknows, and 4 years away, you are already lined up to vote Democratic. Takes a lot of wind out of your sails with regard to your advocacy of a particular candidate. Eisboch |

I was ready to denounce our Democrat led Congress for not appointing the oversight inspector as required by the TARP legislation, but in doing a little research I discovered that the person is supposed to be first nominated by Bush. He hasn't done that yet, and a third of the 700B has already been spent. Just being fair. Eisboch |

You think those "classic" tv interviews of her exhibiting her ignorance are going to disappear from tape? You think her brand of simple-minded social conservatism is going to have broader appeal in 2012? Is she going to have another baby? Will her youngest daughter get pregnant? I can only hope Palin remains "active" on the national political scene, to remind the voters over and over and over that there is nothing between her ears. She's terrific. |

There are innumerable other factors about the "modern" GOP that are turn offs for me, and some of those are wrapped up in what you are calling "Republican ideals." These include the destruction of individual liberties the last eight years, the intrusion into privacy, the opposition to abortion, the opposition to science, the opposition to birth control, the excesses of corporations, wall street, insurance companies, overly aggressive foreign policies, overspending on the military, ignoring our crumbling infrastructure, and so on and so forth, ad nauseum. Oh yeah...the Republican governors consider Sarah Palin a leader of the party. I would have categorized her as a national embarrassment. |

Eisboch The real answer, of course, is that there is no proof that "moderates" make up the majority of the GOP. In fact, if you look through the state by state returns from the last election, you'll see the pattern emerge of who most Republican voters are...mainly older, whiter, evangelicals. Hardly moderates. |

Convince me that "moderates" make up the majority of the Republican Party. Before this last election, there were quite a few moderate Republicans. Unfortunately, many of them lost. The end result is the Republican Party is now further to the right. You will probably disagree with me on this, but I'm hoping for a strong moderate Republican rebirth. A two party system needs two strong parties. It helps keep corruption at bay, and the bashing about of competing ideas is an overall plus. The religious fundies, however, can pound sand. |

This election was not typical. Too many extreme factors ... disgust with Bush, the War and then the economic meltdown starting September 15th. Add to them the Palin factor and it was over. I agree that many moderate Republicans voted for Obama this time around. I also believe that once the GOP gets reorganized, it will make a strong comeback in future elections. Eisboch |

We could have done worse. We could have had Hillary. Eisboch I watched Palin's speech and suddenly aborted press conference today.. She is going to be the gift that keeps on giving. You seem to hate women so much you should become a Muslim. Hate? That's a Republican characteristic. I think she's terrific, and just the woman I want to see capture the 2012 GOP nomination. Well give your fixation on Palin a break until 2012. *Or are you republican wieners and leaches already worried? *snerk Tell you what, Canuck...ESAD.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - wow, what refinement and culture...... |

Honestly, it depends on how the Republican Party responds. If it moves to the right, as some suggest it should, it will become a regional party until it sees the light. This country is governed from the center. It's the nature of a two party system. |

Eisboch It makes life a lot easier for him. Vote strictly democratic. No thinking, judgment or common sense required. |

Bush and Dick Cheney, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, and John McCain and Sarah Palin. No thinking or judgment was required to turn down those choices. Instinct and my gut told me they were wrong for America. I was spot on with turning down Bush and Cheney. America agreed with me on turning down McCain and Palin. Silly me...I didn't vote for the idiot Bush and the thug Cheney, and I didn't vote for No Judgment McCain or JesusFreak Palin. |

My description is spot-on. Nothing racist in my remark. Nothing bigoted, either. Just reality. Hey...aren't you an older, whiter, evangelical? Didn't you vote for McCain-Palin? Case closed. |
