no boating due to politics
I was supposed to go help with a sailboat race (cant sail cuz I messed
up my back) but cannot get any gas for the boat due to the shut down refineries cuz a certain political faction won't allow more refineries to be built thus putting 1/4 of our nations refining capacity at risk in a naturall disaster like Ike. So, this IS about boating and my not going boating due to idiocy of certain politicos. |

So, this IS about boating and my not going boating due to idiocy of certain politicos. Are you really this stupid? There will be no refineries built as long as the Oil Companies own the government. They don't want the supply increased, because that would just erode prices and they would make less money. Right now, they are making record profits every quarter. Massive record profits. The last thing they want to do is have to produce more gas for less money. Things are going exactly their way. This is your much touted "free market" capitalism at it's best. You wanted the government off the back of industry and you got it. This is how it works. Don't like it? Then stop voting for it. I've seen about a dozen major news articles about how the refinery owners themselves are the ones who chilled construction of new facilities. The more O'Hara posts on things political, the more he reveals himself as a political simpleton, fed his lines by reich-wing radio or faux news or some lying crap outlet like that. By the way, if you take the apostrophe out of O'Hara, you get Ohara. Ohara is not that many letters removed from...Obama. :) Didn't you just write the quote below??? "Perhaps someday you'll post something interesting and informative that, gasp, relates to boats." What's good for the goose |

They aren't stupid, they are just greedy.... they've purposefully drastically reduced the available refining capacity (supply), thence driven prices sky high, and reaped record profits for their shareholders. Tell me again, what is their motivation to increase supply and decrease profits? They are corporations, they aren't there to powder your out-of-gas buns, they are there to line the pockets of shareholders. -- Grady-White Gulfstream, out of Oak Island, NC. In the past, we had independent refineries along with those owned by the majors. However, regulations have caused the independents to no longer be able to meet the requirements so now we only have major refineries. Essentially, the govt has caused monopolization by enacting onerous licensing and regulations. If one looks, he will also find that refineries ae all operating at over their designed capacity these days. Govt regs have caused us to become dependent on monopolies. In the past, the oil industry was much less a vertically integrated monopoly but govt has driven it to bcome so. |

Chevron Richmond Refinery is trying to expand and be able to process heavier crude. The local enviros, and city are tossing lots of roadblocks in the way. Maybe if they pay a bunch of money to the Rainbow Coalition, or some enviro group they will get the permits. How about letting them build a refinery in your neighborhood? Chevron and Texaco merged just like a lot of other oil companies a few years ago because they were making about 2% ROI. You must have not paid attention in Economics 101. |
