I guess when your only friend is harry, you have to spend your time criticizing JohnH's travel trailer. Doesn't the major John allow differing opinions in the drone..er..dwarf army? How about a little respect for LtCol John. If you are going to belittle him you could at least get his rank correct. And, you could congratulate him on finally reaching full retirement age. Did you now he was subject to recall at any time by the US Army until he reached hist 62nd birthday? Say what? You could have knocked me over with a feather.... a man who attained that rank... leading men during wartime..yet acting like he does here? God help America! It's not a big deal. Lieutenant colonel is the rank at which most officers retire. If you are an officer and stay in the army long enough, 15 or 20 years, you'll make that rank as a minimum. A friend from the 1980s, much younger than me, made the Army his career. He's a major general and in Iraq right now, finishing up his last four months before returning stateside, with a couple of months at that time until retirement. I don't recall his exact age, except that he's in his 50's. Oh, and unlike Herring, my friend is an officer and a gentlemen. Herring is a horse's ass. Major is the rank at which most officers retire. Major means you get 20 years, LtCol means you get 26 years and full Col means you get 30 years. The equivalent squid rank to a Major is LCdr. So that is the minimum based on how long you stay in? I did not know that. How about those who perform above expectations at their job over 20 or 25 years? If you don't make Major by some number of years that I can't remember you are kindly asked to find gainful employment within the civilian sector. This could be due to any number of reasons and does not always negatively reflect upon the individuals performance. Say you have 12 years in flying a no longer needed aircraft and they do not want to spend the money transitioning you to new aircraft and they have a glut of pilots that are 4 to 8 years your junior. Well, you get to find a civilian job. If you are a Major you retire at 20 years unless there is a stop-loss. If you are a LtCol you retire at 26 years unless there is a stop-loss. If you are a Col you retire at 30 years unless there is a stop-loss. You have to make room at the top so that there is room for those at the bottom to move up. |

Of course. :) I bet it will be "the" Marine Corps band. Nope. Then again I hope Tiny Tim didn't do a rendition. One never knows. :) The Marine Corps Band is a great band. As one of my duties back when, I scheduled the bands for the graduations of the Engineer Officer Advanced Courses. We alternated between the Army Band and the Marine Band. The latter was my favorite. They sounded better and had more 'flair'. They were a great group. They have performances in the area every Sunday. We've been to several and found them spectacular! |

If you score high enough on the various tests, it was the ASVAB when I was in, you got to talk to the series commander about becoming an officer. I was already what was called an 85 day reservist in a commissioning program. You had to have a GT score above 110 at that time. I was second highest in my platoon with a 128 just behind a guy who had a 145. Smart sum-bitch but really ****ed up. |

Not much of a score is required for an Engineer Equipment Operator. Shovels and 1.5KW generators don't require a lot of expertise. |

I would love to use some of that det cord up on my mother's place to clean up the back 40. Do you have any spare cord lying around? I wonder if it would work as an easy way to till up her garden. |
