I'm sure Larry could explaine it, though. Of course, it was all backed

but........

I don't mean "that" explanation. We know what happened.

Why is that?

While CNO, he instituted many liberal "social" changes in the Navy that
really did nothing to improve the character or spirit of a military
force.
He was famous for his "Z-Grams" which were issued on a regular basis,
much like a modern day Blog.

Others may disagree, but I don't think his policies were productive.

Eisboch

Surely you are not referring to his policies to reduce discrimination
against women and minorities? The navy was a hotbed of discrimination for
decades.

Surely, I am not.

I am referring to policies that began to erode traditional chain of command
structures.
But, never mind. You and I would never agree on this type of subject.

Eisboch,
Congratulations. I was wondering when you would realize this. ;)

Whatever Zumwalt did, it had less of a negative effect on the military
than the policies of Bush, Cheney, and that idiot secretary of defense
who stepped down.

Disregarding his Z-Grams, his ideas about many, cheaper ships, as opposed
to fewer, expensive ships, makes sense to me. In WWII, many/most of the
German weapons systems were superior to ours, but in a war, numbers
matter, and we produced the numbers. We seem to have become enthralled
with technology, and I'm not sure it's the right direction. The Zumwalt
destroyer seems to be a good example.

I should correct myself. Not all were bad.
He relaxed many traditional regulations however that were taken advantage of
by many, causing discipline and moral problems.
Certainly not intended to do so, the relaxation of some regulations led to a
sharp increase of drug use and abuse for example.

That might have been a symptom of the times. After Vietnam, morale
wasn't at it's highest, either.

Well, now, I'm sure we'd agree that any policy adopted by the military
that led to an increased use of illegal drugs would be a bad one. While
I believe possession of personal amounts of marijuana should be
completely decriminalized for the general population, I don't believe
such relaxation should extend to the military.

So, so far you are incorrect on whether we would agree.
