I had an old friend, long dead now, who was chief engineer at a successful
FM rocker running 100KW from 500' near the middle of SC. He was old and
hated what they played, calling it crap. I stopped by his house and his
wife said he had transmitter trouble so was at the tower. I went over
there and he was watching it to see if he could determine why it was
faulting (arcing somewhere) every so often. We talked for a while and
finally saw the driver tube plate current meter jumping and changed out the
tube.

Knowing how he hated that noise it was transmitting, I asked him, "How do
you know when the audio is distorted on this stuff??"

"Any distortion I can add only enhances this fine music.", was his reply...
