Oh yeah, I never figured out how 8 "bits" could equal $1.00

We will all try to put your mind at ease:

With the fans, the car is a DC motor and the window is AC.
Starting
torque is different.
As for the bits ..... isn't 2 "bits" a quarter?
But you can take a window fan and set it on "low" , plug it in,
and it
starts up jjust fine, though...
True, but it's not particularly good for the motor. Ideally, it
should
start up on "high" to give max torque using all the windings of
the motor.
Then, it can be turned down. Not a big deal though ... most
fans can
handle it. I forget the mechanical stuff, but it takes
something like 3
times the amount of power to get something in motion than it
does to
maintain that motion.

Actually the only force required to maintain motion is that required
to overcome friction or do work. Therefore the ratio is theoretically
infinite if the fan operates in a vacuum and has frictionless
bearings.

And...'pull chain' operated fans start at off - high speed-- med -low-- off
rotary button fans go from off - low - med - high and you reverse direction
to switch off.

And are also controlled via a rheostat and can be started at a creep

Not exactly. It is true that if you are sliding something, it will
take more force, not power, to get it started than to maintain it in
motion at minimum speed. As for power, that is rate of doing work.
Work is force applied times distance moved.

Ok. Ok. *Lemmie try again.

At the "low" setting, the fan will temporarily draw more current to produce
the same power (watts) to get the stupid fan blade moving. *Since the
windings in these cheap fans are so wimpy to begin with, this ain't so good
over the long term.

Right, it's kind of like trying to get started with a restrictor

The only post from WAFA at Chucks Is a picture of mostly plastic used drain
plugs. I don't know. Maybe you think it's art. Maybe we can work it over for
you and do something imaginative with it. Has the cat got your tongue. you
usually have some smart ass comment to go along with your artwork. You are

Harry has taken some beautiful photos of drain plugs. You really should go
look at them. The comments about his granddaughter's photo (or whoever,
whatever, whenever, if he took it, quibbling ****...) must have made an
impact. He's given thought to the proper use of lighting and backgrounds.
He's even using depth of field in imaginative ways.
