Technically, walleye are a paraphyletic perciform - meaning that they
are a species who can not be related back to any particular species.

The only thing they have in common with perch is that they have spiny
ray shaped fins. They also have traits in common with pike and
genetically black bass.

Thus, the classification as a paraphyletic perciform.

Now, Shut Up....80

Walleye are a perch like perciform - scientific name Sander vitreus
vitreus.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walleye

Perciformes are perch like, but they aren't perch.

http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Orde...er=Perciformes

While they are listed as being in the perch family, they are
paraphyletic. As in:

"Largest order of fishes. Most families in many suborders are not
currently definable in terms of shared derived characters and thus may
not be monophyletic."

Not being monophyletic, they are paraphyletic which is defined as:

"a group of organisms is said to be paraphyletic (Greek para = near
and phyle = race) if the group contains its most recent common
ancestor but does not contain all the descendants of that ancestor."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraphyletic

I rest my case.

I WIN!!! WHOO HOO!!!

Big deal. You're easily amused. 8)

And after all that....walleyes are still members of the perch family.
10,000,000 Google hits can't be wrong,

Oy!!!

Google is the AntiChrist. :)

Years ago when I used to do walk on stuff with different bands (I was
a vocalist) my bud tried to get me to "just carry the strat around
your neck".. He taught me a few chords but I never did it.. He had a
beautiful old strat and a bunch of other guitars and string
instruments.. His dad used to sit on the back porch playing the Banjo,
you could hear it out in the fort where we used to party.. Pretty
cool.

This guy might have summed it :

guitarzan6000 // Mar 4, 2008 at 6:57 am

You gotta be kidding me…Joan Jett ???? I mean seriously, is this a
JOKE??? How can there even BE a
“greatest guitarist” list???? Thats like rating the top 100 “Wives” of
all time, you just can’t!!! It’s all based just on “opinions”, and you
know what they say about opinions….”Opinions are like A**holes,
everyone has one, nobody wants to hear someone else’s, and they all
stink”….

Nice one. The champ doesn't need touching up.
Those crappies are really nice.
Do you fillet them or just gut and fry?

Crappies? I doooon't think so.
Come on Vic, you're a good Midwestern boy, you should be able to ID a
crappie.
Piffle - smallish.
That' my bud Jimi there with the one fish. He loves chasing the
Calico, he wants to break the state record. He has come within ounces

Actually I think those are Crappie not Calico Bass. *Or, maybe Calico is

Yeah, that is a local name for the black crappie.. We call them Calico
Bass. I understand there is a big Calico Bass they catch on the west
coast, in salt water too.. They are some of the best eating fish you
will ever have in my and many other opinions..

Years ago, nice perch would top crappie but they are hard to find.
Walleye is at the top of the list right under Crappie IMO.- Hide quoted text -

Yup, we used to get good yellow perch when I was a kid.. They were
good eatin' but pretty boney...

You need to learn how to fillet a fish properly.

Fresh water yellow perch is by far tastier than walleye, although
walleye are more fun to catch.- Hide quoted text -

Sure, and rabbits are rodents - like a mouse. Apples and oranges. It's
walleye, btw - plural and singular. Both of those perch are good food!
