I have heard of wax in the fuel filters of diesels in cold weather.
One *local vender sold a 50/50 mix of #1 and #2, which solved the
problem. How do you keep wax from melting at engine temperature?

Back before blended grades of oil, some oil had more paraffin in it
than others. Pennsylvania crude had quite a bit of paraffin in it
naturally. My uncle, an aviation machinist, knew alot about old
technology oil.

The scam at the Toyota dealer's is to 'suggest' that every auto be serviced
every 3000 instead of 5000 miles, regardless of usage. And then they have
about $25 worth of 'extra dealer items', such as 'friction proofer' and
other additives that are routinely added, unless they're told up front not
to do it.

I'm very careful to tell them I want the 'book' service when I go in.

I give up. What the hell is friction proofer?

Some additive the Toyota folks sell. Hell, I don't know what it is! I just
tell them I don't want it.

It goes by many names: Pixie Dust, Snake Oil ; fairy dust; Mystery
Oil, Slick 50 etc.

It is a very effective way to quickly and easily, with very little
friction to lube money from your wallet into their wallet.

Yeah! That stuff!

Last week my wife took her Highlander in. I looked at the bill, and she
paid for all the extra ****, even though I'd told her to tell them exactly
what the book said.

When I asked her about it, she said, "Well, Elliot said I should do it."

I almost told her to go marry Elliot.

I would confront Elliot and his manager. Those Nazi tactics need to stop.

My grandparents (RIP) used to get a new car every year or two. They
paid sticker...for a Buick! They loved their sales guy though.

Last check at the local gas station showed me that that they're damn near
close to that for diesel *oil* right now. Pricing for grading on my projects
has skyrocketed due to diesel costs.

Billy Joe sold it to his brother Billy Bob who changed the name and raised
the price.

$4.69/gallon in Charleston, SC. Sure glad all my diesels, 2 Mercedes
cars and a Chevy 6.2L diesel stepvan run on used frying oil from
Chinese restaurants....

I also have a Chinese 1 cyl diesel genset that runs fine on a mixture
of twenty gallons of vegoil mixed with a quart of mineral spirits.
That's the mixture I'm running in the unmodified cars.

I watched a not-too-smart-boat-owner sidle his dual V8 gas engined 40-
something foot cruiser up to the Ashley Marina gas dock and charge $5300 to
his VISA card, today.

He had that "for sale look" on his face.....

Hope he wasn't a doctor. I don't wanna see his patients suffer more than
usual.....

Even the 8 nice bikini'd honeys showing off to the cute college boy dock
hand didn't make up for the fuel cost this week.....

A 40 something footer with a thousand gallon tank. Gee Larry, I don't
think so.

Maybe he filled his freshwater and blackwater tanks and the bilge, too.
I'll bet that boat has one hell of a range!
