Sorry to hear about that pontoon boat you got outbid on.

My wife and I are thinking of RVs as we speak. We went to a dealer last
week and looked at this one:

Pretty nice layout and runs around $85K. It has a Mercedes 6cyl diesel
engine that supposedly gets around 20 mpg. It looked like it would be very
comfortable for two people.

But, $85K will buy a lot of plane tickets and motel rooms!

That's a beaut! Chrysler is making some damned nice vehicles lately,
the chassis will be fine!

The chassis is by Mercedes, as is the engine. It's the Mercedes 'Sprinter'
with a Dodge emblem on the front.

Mercedes owns Chrysler, same thing.

We disagree. If the engine and chassis were not made by Mercedes (the
*real* Mercedes), I wouldn't consider buying it.

"The deal created a new entity, DaimlerChrysler. However, the buyout failed
to produce the trans-Atlantic automotive powerhouse dealmakers had hoped
for, and DaimlerChrysler announced on 14 May 2007 that it would sell
Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management of New York, a private equity firm
that specializes in restructuring troubled companies, effectively unwinding
the original transaction.[2]"

The worry that Chrysler and Mercedes would become the same thing had many
Europeans thinking much less of Mercedes.
