Does it exist? Did it ever exist? Was it just another one of Harry's lies? |

If he had played his cards right, he could have solved your question. Since I live way up here and have little chance of seeing any of Harrys boats, I'll take his word on what he sails. |

He was invited on Harry's Parker, not his 36' Zimmerman like lobster boat. If he had played his cards right, he could have solved your question. No, because Harry's never invited anyone on his alleged lobster boat. Don't you find it odd that Harry will take a picture of his laptop computer, his cat, his printer, his fat hand, the hotel he stayed at, just to prove that he has those things, but there's no such picture of his 36' Zimmerman like lobster boat, or any history of his father's fireboat welcome to NY city (even the NYFD chief historian says there is no account of such), no pictures of his infamous single handing around the horn, his sailing from SF to Hawaii, and all of his other lies? |

The high: Today is the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, the Italian genius whose work epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal and whose Last Supper (1495–98) and Mona Lisa (1503–06) are widely influential paintings. Born in 1452. The low: On this day in 1955, Roy Croc opened the first McDonald's franchise in Des Plaines, Illinois, and in that same year started the McDonald's Corporation. :) Yup, It made us FAT. (most of us) If you watch any footage of the general population from that time and prior, you'll notice that most folks are a normal weight. Go to any locale where people populate these days and notice that most everyone has "junk in the trunk" Why? Fast food, and drive through windows. Not the only cause, but a major playa. I know, Im as guilty as anyone. btw, I think its *rAy* Croc. He bought the rights for the franchise from the McDonald brothers (or bought the actual 1st store) They had the idea/concept of "Fast food". Ray was smart enough to know that idea would work anywhere and capitalized on it. Dave Thomas and Col. Sanders were pretty smart fellows as well in that regard. db |

I screwed up his name on my post. Actually, I wasn't thinking about how much fat was in McDonald's crap food, but how very bad it was in terms of *taste*! That's why I picked it as a "low point" of civilization. But you are absolutely correct in pointing out the problems in eating what most fast food joints serve up. |

The low: On this day in 1955, Roy Croc opened the first McDonald's franchise in Des Plaines, Illinois, and in that same year started the McDonald's Corporation. :) I believe it was Ray Croc. First store was about 2 miles from my childhood home. Any White Castles there? I was delivering papers on my bike when I saw my first MacDonalds, around 79th and Jeffery. There was an old White Castle a couple blocks east. I tried one of the McDonald burgers - it was 15 cents. Liked the smaller White Castle much better - it was 12 cents. That was '59 I think. Maybe '60. I still eat 8 White Castles once in a while, when I get the craving, 3 or 4 times a year. Of course I always regret it for a couple days. Never cared at all for McDonalds. Best thing they have is the breakfast sandwiches. I'll stop when we travel for that if that's how our schedule is working, but otherwise stay away. None of my kids got hooked on that, either, because I only took them there if we were on the road. A good hamburger is easy to make. Now fried chicken - that's another story. --Vic ps. I worked in Mac's marketing department for a couple years. Corporate HQ in Oak Brook. Amazing business, and a super operation. |
