My takeaway is I don't want Vista yet, but not necessarily because of

Don't know if Powerdesk obviates this Vista issue, but Total
Commander, another file manager, is supposed to.

A lot of application software that worked fine under Win2K and XP does
not work under Vista, and people are still having trouble finding 64
bit drivers for many devices.

I'd like to see a recent list of contemporary application software that
worked under XP and does not work under VISTA. A lotta list, eh? And I
am sure the advanced home users in this newsgroup are running older
64-bit versions of windows.

Snerk yourself...that list is full of b.s.

"I had the same problem after installing Vista 32 bit. To get past it, I
had to uninstall the program then reinstall it. When I reinstalled, I
used the "Run as Administrator" to execute the .exe installation file."

Yeah, well, it ran...and it would have run if the original poster in
that thread had any understanding of what he was doing.

Unimpressed.

In Vista's defense I asked the Mrs. how she liked her new "notebook"
loaded w/Vista, and she says she likes it very well. and she does a
lot more ( A WHOLE not more!) with it than post in rec.boats, and
various bass guitar forums.

You haven't noticed Vista taking much longer to delete files?

Nope. I don't delete that many "individual" files that the time involved
in doing so becomes an annoyance, and, typically, I use "Total
Commander" for file manipulation.

"Reggie," the chief VISTA antagonist here, knows less about computer
operating systems than I know about gynecology.

Well, not Windows, but I've been running a 64 bit Linux system for 3 or 4
years, now. ;-)

Now there's a hell of an OS if you need to use a third party program
to move files around.....
