I must be a geek!!
Ran the test (had to use IE instead of Firefox because even though I have
the latest version of Firefox, I couldn't
load the "IE tab" plug-in)

Anyway, here's the summary of the results from PCPitstop:

Computer Name: (deleted)
Date Tested: Mon Apr 7 12:54:46 EDT 2008

This system performs extremely well on our benchmarks and appears to be
among the fastest systems available! See the information below for your
system details and advice on how to tweak the hardware and software for
best performance.

Cool. I wonder what I am doing correctly?

Not downloading porn! ;-)

It's too bad we can't get our resident computer idiot savant, "Reggie,"
to run the standard benchmark, like 3DMark06, on his "hot" XP machine,
so we can see how much faster it is than my "slug" of a VISTA machine.

I'm not sure you understand the meaning of TSR. There's no problem with
the typical TSRs running on Vista, when they are called upon. No more
so than WinXP.

With multitasking OSs and protected memory, Terminate-Stay-Resident
programs are a thing of the past, the long lost DOS past.

You are absolutely correct. I still am not out of the habit of referring to
Windows services/processes as TSRs.

Long before TSR was Terminate Stay Ready it meant something else.

Old enough to remember? :)

Old enough, definitely yes. Remember, no. That's the problem. 8-)

Now I have a good reason for not remembering. I never got into PC games
beyond solitaire while I'm on hold on the telephone. Also use blackjack and
hold 'em sims to sharpen my skills before a sojourn to a casino.

Pretty well sums up many people's opinions and suspicions. Good to see XP's
availability has also been extended for the lower-end computers that many
buy from Best-Buy, etc.

Now, who will fess up to being part of the beta testing of "Blackcomb" (aka
Windows 7)?

My takeaway is I don't want Vista yet, but not necessarily because of

Don't know if Powerdesk obviates this Vista issue, but Total

A lot of application software that worked fine under Win2K and XP does
not work under Vista, and people are still having trouble finding 64
bit drivers for many devices.
