A few weeks ago, I finished washing and applying two coats of Zaino Bros
polish on my boat. *Yesterday, I stopped by to drop off some equipment I
carried home over the winter. *The boat was YELLOW from pine pollen.

Anyone who has lived through a Georgia Pine Pollen outburst, knows what
I am talking about, for those who haven't, imagine someone throwing
yellow stain all over everything.

The worst part is you can actually see the trees burst in a large cloud
of pine tree sperm ( I meant to say pollen) when they orgasm (I meant to
say release) the pollen.

Everything here is yellow... *even puddles after a rain.

When my wife managed a bank at the airport, she had a LOT of travelers
asking what the yellow powder all over everything was. They were
thinking toxic waste rather that amorous foliage....

Well if you want to look on the positive side, as least it is not as
obnoxious as "Love Bugs". *I was in Orlando when they swarmed and that
was nasty.- Hide quoted text -

I hate love bugs. They ruin paint, and stink to high heaven. All the
old farts down there have many tricks for dealing with them, including
spreading vaseline all over the front of your car to keep them from
sticking.

At least he doesn't feel the need to constantly lie about his life
like you do.

Thanks for the reminder, not. They visit twice a year down here. Yuck

How long does the average swarm last? I think I would try to stock up
on food supplies and telecommute to work. ;)

The first time I ran through them I spent hours getting them off the
car when I got home.
The second time the car just as bad a mess when I left Florida,
but it was raining in Indiana. The car was clean when I got home.
The third time I got home with a messy car, and a few days later
when it rained I took a spin on the highway.
Cleaned 'em right off.
Think you need good rain and about 60 MPH for at least 5 minutes
though.

You don't want to leave those things on the paint for very long. They pack
some nasty acid that eats right through the clear coat and paint. Been
there done that. Learned the hard way when I first moved to Florida.

When my 96 year old Swedish grandfather was living alone in a elderly
"retirement" place, I visited him quite often just to shoot the bull.
Well, I did ... he never said much, except "Ya." Anyway, on one visit I
happened to see one of those love bugs crawling across the floor and without
even thinking, I squished it and threw it in the trash barrel.

My grandfather asked what it was and I told him. He was horrified. "Are
you sure?" he says. "Ya", said I. He was visibly shaken and upset. I
asked him what the problem was. He just said you shouldn't kill a love bug
..... it's bad luck.

A week later my grandfather died.

For a given area, I would say 1 to 2 weeks. They do seem to migrate from
place to place.

Coincidence. I hope.

I am sure it was. But, I have a new respect for love bugs.

Here in Central Florida 1~2 weeks would be a blessing. The early event
usually in May typically lasts 4~5 Weeks. The next coming of the little
buggers starts in mid-August to early September and usually doesn't last
quite as long. Last year the *seasons* were particularly on the long side.
