McCain can't remember from one day to the next much of anything. He's a decent man, but he ought to be running for President of the Old Folks Home, if he could recall where it is. Too bad he didn't win 8 years ago. Getting a bit long in the tooth now. Of course Ronnie got by being propped up by Nancy... so if McCain has a good wife..............who knows? |

Many of the casualties have occurred in Baghdad's Sadr City, a stronghold of militias loyal to Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. A spokesman for the Iraqi Health Ministry says at least 75 people have been killed and nearly 500 wounded in clashes and U.S.-led airstrikes. There are reports that dozens of policemen in Sadr City surrendered their weapons to Sadr's forces, saying they could not fight their own people. Iraq's Shi'ite government fighting Iraq's Shi'ite militias. I guess since a few hundred thousand Sunni have been killed and two million have left because of "ethnic cleansing," they have to fight each other. And the U.S. pilots and their bombs? I wonder how many kids they've killed in their airstrikes, as they work hard to win the hearts and minds. |

John McCain (R-AZ) told CNN that that President Bush's escalation in Iraq is going so well, "General Petraeus goes out there almost every day in an unarmed humvee." On Monday, he told radio host Bill Bennett that there "are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods, today." This morning, during an interview with McCain, CNN's John Roberts rebutted McCain's assertions, stating, "I checked with General Petraeus's people overnight and they said he never goes out in anything less than an up-armored humvee." He added that a new report by retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey "said no Iraqi government official, coalition soldier, diplomat reporter could walk the streets of Baghdad without heavily armed protection." Faced with overwhelming evidence that he was wrong, McCain denied he'd ever said it: "Well, I'm not saying they could go without protection. The President goes around America with protection. So, certainly I didn't say that."
