PS: One of my all-time favorite movies.

While living in North Carolina, I was an acquaintance of Junior Johnson
of NASCAR fame, on whom the movie was loosely based. He was quite a
character. Through the 80's and later, he was the darling of NC
Democrats. He made the rounds of most of the fund raisers, always could
be counted on for a donation.

I didn't agree with his politics, though I thought he was a man one
could count on.

Yes - yes he does. He also wrote both of them - the title song "Ballad
of Thunder Road" and "Whipporwill" with Don Raye a Songwriter Hall of
Fame member.

Interesting trivia about the cars in the movie - they were actual
moonshiner cars. The local 'Shiners sold them to the movie company to
buy newer/faster cars. :)

Good ole boys weren't too dumb on that one. :)
