Ok - anyway, it came back yesterday - I had XP Home, now I have XP Pro - can't figure that one out. But, during the course of the repair, I also lost my mother board, so the drives were backed up with the subsequent loss of programs, but the data was ok. However, for some reason, when I started the beast back up, I found that I now own something called Open Office. Anybody know what the hell that is? Oh, and while I'm on the subject, the new version of Thunderbird sucks. Can't they just leave well enough alone? 1. There are or were "upgrade only" versions of XP Pro around that upgraded XP Home. The serial number would remain the same. Computer assemblers can buy bulk licenses for such upgrades from MS on the cheap, typically in 100-license packs. 2. Losing and replacing a motherboard should not affect the programs and data on a hard drive, though some settings might change or have to be changed because of the hardware differences between the two motherboards. 3. Open Office is a freebie imitation of Microsoft Office. 4. The latest version of T'bird is evolutionary, not revolutionary. The changes are minor and shouldn't be that upsetting to anyone.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Harry, Tom is through with your lies and childish insults, remember? |
