Not that I particularly care or am even concerned, but it sure won't
surprise me to read a future report by an AGore wannabe that widespread
use of wind power has detrimental effects on the earth's natural air
currents, seed distribution and overall global tinkering with nature.

Nuclear power is the answer. Clean, safe and has been the center of our
solar system and of the universe for that matter, for billions of years.

Eisboch

Only a few problems with nuclear. But I agree, currently our best option.

First, it needs to be safer to run. And not just the uranium cycle, but the
thorium cycle is pretty good characteristics here and the US even has
thorium reserves. The issue is 3-mile island type issues. Needs a massive
KISS redesign for dummies to get it right every time.

Second issue, as hot water/steam is involved, the greenies will still
complain. 1/2 the greenies out there are stupid sheep following a pied
piper -- Green has more to do with marketing and crowd control than reality.
But none the less, greens will pounce on every nuke for something to do.

Now to store the stuff for mobility, add lead, mercury, lithium and other
heavy metals that are usually considered toxic. Have to buy one whole lot
of batteries to pull a boat.

And that is before one gets to needing many acres of land to get a

Plastic? Don't think so. State of the art cells are doped silicon (plenty
of that around) which are then further processed with protective and
conductive coatings. Recent advances in the optical assemblies that focus
more of the available sunlight onto the cells is one of the significant
reasons for improved efficiency. About 25 years ago solar cell efficiency
was, at best, 15 percent.
Today it's up to a mind boggling 18-20 percent. Long ways to go.

Solar and wind are still a long, long ways from being a viable energy
alternative to replace fossil fuel. The 100,000 megawatt capacity of the
nuclear plants currently operating in the US only supplies about 20 percent
of consummed power.
Solar and/or wind can't even be considered to make up the difference, let
alone replace oil and nuc altogether.

It's pretty simple - it's a huge commodity bubble. There is absoutely

the word. It's too much money chasing too little profit - a sort of
currency inflation if you will. If I'm right, and I'm pretty sure I
am, economic data will provide the catalyst for the crash - sometime
around the middle to the end of July.

Hmmmmm..... It sounds like you are basically in agreement with Doug.
Did hell just freeze over?

Well, obviously - six inches of snow last night and no open water
anywhere. :)

I'd add this - out of control information flow is also a function of
this - anything will move the market. If somebody sneezes in Nigeria,
another $.50 to $1. Fog in the Houston shipping channel - another
$.50 to a $1. And it happens more and more often - issues that
wouldn't have affected the price 10 years ago, now can cause 1-2%
changes in price instantly.

Bingo. And, it works in the exact same way as when irrelevant financial

I'm not sure about that. In this country, wind energy alone, accounts
for 13,000 megawatts, most installed in the last 5 years, and there are
estimates that wind alone, could provide twice our present energy needs.

Portugal expects 45% of their energy needs to be met by renewable energy
by 2015. Germany isn't far behind.

I don't think anyone expects *one* silver bullet. It's going to take
conservation, new technologies, and, perhaps, most importantly, a
comprehensive national energy policy, which this present administration
doesn't seem to have the stomach for. I'm not saying it will be easy,
but it can be done, and solar/wind should be part of the mix.

Ditto.

This year's flu bug seems to be almost epidemic. From what Mrs.E. tells me,
most of our family are sick, half the company's employee's are sick, several
of her friends at the horse joint are sick and the schools are half filled
with kids who have either recovered or haven't been sick yet.

I wouldn't know first hand. I've holed myself up in a corner of the house
with enough food, water and dog bones for Sam Adams to last until the GB is
launched. No way am I going out "there" in a community filled with

I got the shot earlier. As a caretaker of my 90 yo dad, we do
everything we can to keep from getting the flu which his doctor has
told him would almost certainly be a death sentence. My little one
went down, and I hid for a week too. When anyone gets any kind of
sniffle here, we go into lockdown mode, kids forced to wash hands
several times a day, all take zinc, vacume and filter room air, 24/7
to keep contaminates down. Pretty scarey stuff for guys like me and
dad with resiratory problems to start with...

My secret is to get a flu shot every year in October and never, ever
take anti-biotics.

I swear, over use of anti-biotics creates these situations.

Then again, I'm an alien so most Earth diseases don't affect me.

The overuse of anti-biotics do create super germs, but it doesn't matter
if you take them or not. Since everyone else takes them, the germs you
will breath in, have evolved into the "super' variety.

I saw a study four/five years ago about "super" bugs.

Super bugs can be handled very well by standard anti-bioitics if one
practices a relatively anti-biotic free lifestyle. Gives the bodies
immune system a chance to fight back with minimal assistance.

And having two immunilogical disorders, that's important to me.

I don't do injections into my spine anymore. Too much damage from ESI's
(Facet Injections, Selective Nerve Root Blocks and the like). Too much
can go wrong with the needle and the preservative in the steroid solution.

I am hoping to play 9 this afternoon but it isn't looking too good, what

I spent the money to get custom fitted from a professional club fitter.
