For some reason my reply to this seems not to be showing up but I did
note above that we will be backing up our windows systems too! But you
are right on track, thanks as always, it was you that sent me to that
testdisk program, I am listening..

That's what I was getting at. You can use rsync to mirror Linux, *and*
Windows, to the same machine.

Yes, I certainly want to do this:

use chroot = false
strict modes = false

[modulename]

path = /cygdrive/c/cygwin/var/rsync_dump
comment = Rsync storage area
read only = false

Instead of "Backup HK PC"

That is just like an INI file that a command reads to control its
processing.

What's the big deal.

I don't think we are talking about the same thing. rsync will mirror
multiple clients to a server. Set it up once, run it as a cron job,
and forget about it.

Gee, that's pretty much like any other backup software.

Windows Home Server, btw, is a very interesting product.

rsync doesn't require you bend over at the alter of Bill and give him a
couple of hundred dollars.

Yep, just like an .ini file, only it works.

I've been doing business off and on for many years with "NewEgg," an

Just wanted to mention that yesterday I ordered a couple of gigs of
memory for new server computer I am building, and I just got the emailed
UPS tracking notice. The memory sticks will be delivered today.
Apparently NewEgg has a distribution arrangement that enables it to drop
ship from warehouses around the country.

Good prices, too.
