Yes, although The Bat! has an available NNTP add-on, it just isn't a
news reader and I wouldn't recommend it as such....

Mail... for example, you can set the program to automatically delete
all mail over X days old, but the parked messages will not be deleted.
Messages can be parked and unparked manually or automatically, based
on highly configurable filters.


If I delete email from OE's inbox, it lands in the Deleted folder. Now,
there are two ways that folder can be emptied:

1) I set the "Delete on exit" option to do its thing. This can't be done
by
accident unless you're blind or illiterate.

2) I use 3 specific keystrokes to do it manually. If this happens, it's
because I wanted it to happen.

Neither is the fault of the program.


Give you an example....

Instead of fighting with one inbox....

if you sent me an email it would put the message into the folder
"Personal Correspondence" and sub-folder JoeSpareBedroom.

I have the option of making sure I save the item... say the word
"boat" is there. I could park the message, optionally play a sound,
and/or change the color or font.

If you sent it to my public boating email address, it would be saved
under that personna.... perhaps based on previous conditions it could
be archived in another personna.


Outlook Express can do all this, except (AFAIK) customizing sound for
certain emails.



It might even post itself to my
calendar for future action. Or certain information found in header or
body might cause the previously parked message to become of lesser
importance and become unparked.... or subject to automatic deletion at
the next purge cycle.


OE can't do this, because it's not designed for scheduling.

Get a real news reader and dump Outlook Express for news. In fact,
you'd be well served to dump Outlook and/or Outlook Express even for
mail.

No problems with OE here... been using it for years. Filters are easy.

It's hard to dump Outlook if the company you work for is large and has it
integrated into its IT functions and services. But not using Outlook
Express is the way to go. It's just awful.

Most people only post when they have problems... rarely when things are just
fine. I'm very confident there are far more folks in the latter group, than
the former...

pretty simple adaptation.

There was a paperback published some years ago that certainly would
interest Tom if not others. It was a book of roadkill recipes. These
were recipes you could use to heat up on the radiator of your car while
you are driving.

Now, there are other roadkill recipes around, but these were for meals
you could prepare while you travel. On your car engine.

I haven't had a single problem with OE since I began using it several
years ago for email & news. I want to know what YOU have PERSONALLY
WITNESSED.

the world create just for fun.
The virii got into the computer because the user didn't properly
maintain and configure his/her antivirus software.
You can always tell when someone is really an expert. "Virii" is not
only not an English word, it's not a Latin word either.
The plural of virus in English is viruses.
As far as I know, virii is Martian for "potato salad".
I have been unable to find any other references from reputable
sources, or should I say, "sourcii"?

I don't bother with multi-part binaries. I don't see the point. I
download MP4s from Russia (with Love), and any movies I might want are
available from various sites in *.RAR file format. Same with MP3's.

The problem with usenet music binaries is that you never really know
what the hell you are getting, quality-wise.

You really can't, he's too changeable.

I couldn't wade through all this thread, but I did try to set up a filter in
Mozilla and
Firefox. I couldn't get it to work, mainly because I couldn't get the wildcard
feature
to kick in. I need a filter that looks for "M", "I", and "5" in succession but
not
necessarily adjacent. Maybe this was already covered?
