Of notable interest; the Catholic church had pretty much a monopoly on organized Christianity for the longest time, especially during the middle ages. According to their encyclopedia, the translation noted by the author of the Wiki article is a "wrong understanding". Doesn't mean that some folks don't see it the same way as the Wiki writer, however. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07649a.htm Chuck - it was a joke. A set up and then the joke.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Awwww Tom, you made a joke about ....Jesus! "Now I'll be forced to get a bunch of fundamentalist christians and start a jihad.. OOOPS! No, I regret that words been taken already, I like the sound of "jihad", its better than "purge". But oh well, like the saying goes you "run what you brung". Anyhow! We'll get our PURGE coming after you but we'll probably stop off and deal with Illuminati Larry on the way out there. So be prepared to be purged, Now I wish you hand't done this offense Tom, Now I have to go find my white sheetrobe and cone hat. And now I'll have to dig up all the verses to the Battle Hymn of the Republic too, I mean after all, it takes a good while for a body to be burned at the stake. i got a lot of singing to do! See what you put me thought, Tom? Some days it's best just to stay in bed, but no! Now you've made be get up ponder my duties as a "REAL" Christian! Some of us don't think "fundamentalist" Christianity is such a big joke. Any sort of religious fundamentalism with growing numbers of followers is a threat to the sort of secular, non-sectarian society we have here in this country. When you have "religious groups" denying science, limiting medical research, teaching creationism (cretinism, actually), proclaiming Jesus or Mohammed or whoever, voting for candidates based solely on their religious beliefs, in the end, it doesn't matter much whether you are in Iran or in Alabama. The "fundie" Christians in this country are a few years behind and a few millions followers lighter than the "fundie" Muslims in Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. They'll catch up. In the end, they're all the same simple-minded rabble, ready to be led and ready to slaughter. |
