We actually had to march AND play an instrument at the same time. AND play at the same time. That's different. Well, I'd think it'd take a lot more talent to do both at the same time as opposed to just marching. We did both at the same time, and didn't have to practice until our hands were tore up! Goes to show you what type of people get picked for that service! You ought to check out the USMC marching band from Headquarters, Washington. There's a marching band. And, they play while they are marching. |

My son made a comment of how sloppy US Army personnel look compared to the Marines. He noticed this on Parris Island and now at Camp Leonard Wood. Is your son planning to make a career out of being an operating engineer after his time in the marines comes to an end? |

The re-enlistment bonuses for the technical fields in the USMC were those amounts 25 years ago. The Army is getting off cheap. The above doesn't address 're-enlistment', only enlistment. Selective Reenlistment Bonuses can add up to a lot of dollars. The 'multiplier' for a 97E (Human Intelligence Collector), with the appropriate language skills, is 5. That means if he re-ups for six years, his bonus would be: #years x monthly base pay x multiplier = bonus For a sergeant E-5 with six years, the base pay is $2323.80/month. If he reups for six years, the SRB would be: 6 x 2323.80 x 5 = $69714 But, it gets capped at $40000. Which still isn't too shabby. The Marines use the same basic idea, although the specialties in highest demand may differ between the services. Sadly, Engineer Equipment Operators, MOS 1345, are not in high demand right now, and therefore have *no* SRB multiplier. The lack of any SRB multiplier would indicate that the MOS is having no problems meeting the personnel authorizations and may even be overstrength. This will also reduce the promotion potential in the MOS. -- John H |
