I can play a banjo, but I can't "play" a banjo if you get my point. I'm grok guitar and mandolin - I just don't "grok" banjos. Could never play a violin either although I desperatly wanted to lean how to "fiddle". Next is slide quitar this winter. I've owned one for years and tinkered with it, but never really worked hard at it. Now that playing a standard guitar is becoming more and more difficult, slide maybe the way I can keep playing. |

A mandolin is essentially a fretted violin with doubled strings to fatten the sound and add volume. Ever notice that virtually all bluegrass fiddlers double on mandolin? Theres a really good reason for that. vi-olin mand-olin get it? Lan-olin? |
