Sad to say, a long-time manufacturer of individualist medium-size boats
of reasonable quality has shut its doors. Albin is no more.

Came close to buying an older Albin trawler once. It was built in Sweden
and I chickened out because the diesel engine was a Peugeot. It actually
was a highly rated, dependable engine but I was concerned about getting
parts.

I've never owned one but know people that do. I've always like those
boats. What happened? ..... and nobody's stepping in to pick up the
pieces?

You may be a bit premature with that eulogy.

I just phoned Albin, and was told they have temporarily stopped
production to consider a variety of options.

(IOW, they may resume with the infusion of fresh capital, may sell,
etc)

The doors may be reopen soon, following "reorganization". Or not.
Looks like they're at least momentarily down, but maybe not
permanently out.
