Probably more than half of the high traffic websites run their Apache as their webserver. And use ipfw as their firewall. You get both on every single Mac OS X installation, for free. Mac Servers are cheaper than Dell's. Mac Servers are most likely the easiest to administer Unix servers. Macs have been turned into UNIX systems running a form of BSD. No wonder, Apple has increased its market share. Just because everyone does it, does not necessarily mean it is a better solution. Because they got rid of that bomb of an OS called MacOS. Do the comparison, have a look at the software and use it. If after that you come to the conclusion that a PC under Windows is the better solution, then by all means go that route. If not, you may find a better way to do things with Mac OS X. You might be pleasently surprised. How about comparing a PC runnings Linux vs. a Mac running "MacOS". HTH Marc |

Isn't it Linus Torvalds who said that this is what Linux should have become? Linux is fine and free and has all the horsepower. There are just too many variants. And Mac OS X has many layers above the Unix kernel that make it do all sorts of things that Linux will not do or not as elegantly. Although eg Ubuntu will do for end users. Mac OS X has a very well designed user interface, something not easily copied. As long as one actually tests different solutions that's fine with me - there are different tastes.
