Linux is fine and free and has all the horsepower. There are just too
many variants.
And Mac OS X has many layers above the Unix kernel that make it do all
sorts of things that Linux will not do or not as elegantly. Although eg
Ubuntu will do for end users. Mac OS X has a very well designed user
interface, something not easily copied.

As long as one actually tests different solutions that's fine with me -
there are different tastes.

That's become a common problem from what I'm hearing.

$100K is nothing to sneeze at but you actually got a pretty good deal
in my opinion. Our two were closer to $250 and that included some
scholarship assistance but not a lot. They're both doing well
however, out of the house, married, and well on their way to
successful careers so I guess we got our money's worth.

Mine are both doing well. One is a very successful designer for model
homes, and the other has a pediatric therapy business, with several
employees.

And that's the point isn't it.

You give them values, get 'em rolling with reasonable help and from
that point it's up to them.

Ours worked out great and in the greater schema of life, that's all
that matters.

I'd rather not have my radar running Windows, sorry.

I don't know anyone who has their radar on a PC but I guess it is
possible. I run my PC chart plotting software as a backup and
supplement to dedicated Furuno equipment. They are both quite
reliable. The secret is to keep your PC uncluttered with a lot of
other stuff.
