Does anyone have experience with Volvo TADM70E marine engines. I
recently started using home heating fuel and notice more smoking
especially on start up then previously?

If you're in the US, be reluctant to publicly announce you're using
home heating fuel in your boat. While your furnace fuel should be #2
diesel, the authorities would be grumpy to learn that you're evading
the entire tax structure by burning it in your boat. As the basic
product should be the same, any difference in combustibility would
have to be due to the presence or absence of fuel additives.

Maybe your heating oil guy is delivering some sort of #3 diesel, or
what not?

Before switching to biodiesel I used an additive, Soltron. I haven't
used any additive with biodiesel- but when I added 100 gallons of dino-
diesel in the middle of last summer's long cruise I once again slipped
in a few ounces of Soltron.

Chuck is correct, don't let on that your using heating oil, their's
some big fines for non-commercial usage of untaxed fuel.
By the way, my boats got Cats, the local distributer told me it was
designed to run on #2 as well as diesel, but expect it to smoke more.

That must be why three of the gas stations around Deale have pumps at
the back selling home heating out, and why I *never* see guys in fancy
F350s pulling up with 10 gerry cans to fill. :}
