: BTW: My son (19 years old) is actually loving boot camp and has done well in all PT exercises, including Pugil Sticks. I would bet that he could knock out a couple of the older confrontational aholes here within a minute, including some non boaters who hide behind silly handles. Although it might take a bit longer, I would guess my daughter could do the same. ;-) Shoulda joined the NAVY! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqaWd...elated&search= We used to cut up the recruiting bumper stickers that said: "GO Navy" and make "Navy A Go Go" for our cars....(c;....back in the 60's... |

Our cable military channel has had several shows on the USMC boot camp. I am also about to read James Woulfe's book "Into the Crusible". We received another letter from our son today. He remains upbeat and is looking forward to seeing us on Family Day (11-8) and graduation (11-9) then chilling at home for atleast 10 days. He volunteered for recruiting assistance during his leave which will keep him at home another 2 weeks. He cannot wait for a perch fry upon his return! Thanks for keeping my recruit in mind Don! According to my son 3 kids were knocked out in his platoon during Pugil Stick fighting. My friends son was knocked cold twice during his Pugil stick fighting. This is with helmets and body padding. I guess John never learned to use them correctly. Don't forget our Johnny was in the army officers corp. They probably slapped each other on the wrist with padded q-tips. ***************************** Here's yet another of the many daily attacks from "Don White", a frequent rec.boats poster, and if you count them up, you will see how little he adds here in boating/fishing content or interesting reading. ***************************** No Don, I was drafted and went through basic training like any enlisted soldier or draftee. Pugil stick training is two-fold, to learn to attack with a bayonet, and to learn to defend from a bayonet attack and counterthrust. If people were getting knocked out then they must not have learned much about defense. Have you got the kinks worked out in that boat yet? |

The trick to wining is to keep the stick high and keep the stick moving. The way you "win" is either a slash to the head or a horizontal butt stroke, body shots don't count. With the horizontal butt stroke being the simulation of slamming the butt of a rifle into the other guys head. Hitting the other guy in the head at the right spot, even with a helmet on, will knock him down at a least and out cold at most. As John H said you are practicing killing someone before he hills you. |

I had been in the Navy 3 1/2 years then but still wasn't 21. I got out about 1/2 year later, and went on with my life, work, family. Many of those guys went to Nam and it all ended there for them. God bless them. --Vic I second that! |

: I think the Navy has changed since our time, Larry. --Vic Yes, looking back on it I've come to the conclusion we were simply "virtual prisoners" in a floating prison camp, of sorts. The grunts had to be dealt with differently after the forced slavery of the draft board was turned off, resulting in better conditions for all the "volunteers", like me, who joined the Navy to stay alive, a survivalist tactic to avoid being murdered by the elite in Vietnam. I'm a viet vet, but discourage as many young people from becoming cannon fodder for the United Nations Army/Navy/MC/AF as I can, now. These constant wars are caused by BANKERS who control our government and stand to make billions if the wars can be sustained as long as possible. Larry Hey...who cares, as long as dead soldiers translate into money? http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/28/wo...th&oref=slogin September 28, 2007 Official Calls Kurd Oil Deal at Odds With Baghdad By ALISSA J. RUBIN and ANDREW E. KRAMER BAGHDAD, Sept. 27 — A senior State Department official in Baghdad acknowledged Thursday that the first American oil contract in Iraq, that of the Hunt Oil Company of Dallas with the Kurdistan Regional Government, was at cross purposes with the stated United States foreign policy of strengthening the country’s central government. “We believe these contracts have needlessly elevated tensions between the K.R.G. and the national government of Iraq,” the official said, referring to the Kurdistan Regional Government. The official was not authorized to speak for attribution on the oil contract. |

For someone to say that the worst that can happen when being hit with one is a concussion (and only when a helmet is not worn) shows total ignorance on their part. Why does teaching your children to kill hold such wonderful fascination for you? The whole country seems infected by this bug. Everyone should visit a gun show. Larry -- Humans, the self-destructive animals. I know this post isn't addressed to me, but even though I have a collection of over 50 fire arms, I never did have a wonderful fascination to teach to my children to kill. But I did take real joy in teaching them to get their lazy ass's out of bed and get jobs. |

I don't think Larry's comment was directed towards gun owners, but those who take pride in the fact that their kids can beat up the "elderly", and thinking a DI would beat up Harry because he made a snide comment. |
