Yamaha 40HP Outboard - no power to starter?
Yep, good place to start.

I have not dug into it yet, but here's the plan: 1. Check the see if there is a safety pin that is defective or missing 2. Check the neutral safety switch 3. Check the key-lock switch (but trim does not work with key on or off) 4. Poor grounding, etc. Here is my question: Assuming that the manual control box checks out OK, is there something like a relay (or similar) inside the motor housing that could be defective? If this is a common problem, please post your thoughts. BTW - this is the BEST outboard that I have ever owned, this is the first real problem that we have ever had - and I suspect it's something simple to fix. THANKS, Gene |
