Cute kid story

I've been spending quite a bit of time on Mrs.E.'s GB in Scituate. My
summer project has been to slowly refinish all the interior teak ...
sanding, varnishing, etc. and I often spend 2 or 3 days at a time on the
boat.

A couple of weeks ago a boat was put in the slip beside me. The owner is
brand new to boating and is learning the "ropes" so to speak. He brings his
5 year old son with him and he has been busy cleaning and fixing up his new
pride and joy. Several times I've answered questions, helped out and have
even gone out with him (at his request) to give some basic lessons on how to
handle the boat while docking, etc.

The 5 year old has decided that I am his pal. He shouts out my name
whenever he sees me and strikes up a conversation, discussing everything a 5
year old is interested in.

The other day Mrs. E. came down to the boat. She was sitting up on the bow
when Owen (the 5 year old) showed up with his Dad. Owen stopped dead in
his tracks on the dock, pointed at Mrs. E. and yelled out to his father:

"Hey, look ..... he has a Lady!"

That is a cute story, and if you are looking for more projects like
that, have I got a job for you.

I had hoped to get some exterior varnish work done on our GB this
summer but it's been rare to get more than 1 or 2 nice days in a row,
and there's always something else to do when it is sunny and dry.

I always wanted to be a procrastinator but never got around to it...

As a professional procrastinator, I can say with no small amount of
authority that it takes practice.

Lots of practice.

Or, looks like he has a new lady...

If I started spending a lot of time alone on the boat, Mrs B would
have the investigators there in no time at all. :-)

There are certain skills you learn after being married for over 37 years.
Not making a major issue about her horses buys a lot of leverage. Another
is a couple of days hanging around at the house sighing, yawning, moaning
and generally being a bore usually results in her begging me to go back to
one of the boats.

They work. I left from her boat in Scituate this morning, now I am on the
Navigator on the Cape.

Heh, I can relate to that, nothing like sitting out a rainy day at
anchor. I feel an afternoon nap creeping up on me.

The critique of Harry's new boat seems to have run its course for now.
Maybe we can get a few Skipper stories circulating.

On the other hand, there's that old sleeping dog saying.

Watching the market isn't much fun today, that's for sure.

I miss ol' Skipper. He offered some genuinely funny contributions to the
group although they often were not intended to be so.

Ahh yes, an anti-capitalist boater, posting from home no doubt.
