Trailering my boat

I just had a major maintenance schedule and fuel system upgrade done on the
Navigator and happened to be at the marina yesterday as they prepared to
re-splash it. I took a few pictures with a cell phone camera and they came
out surprisingly good. They may be viewed at:

Very cool. That's a neat trailer.

Is that an old Air Force Tow Motor hauling that trailer?

Exactly. The guy operating it told me it's history. They keep it and the
60 ton travel lift in excellent condition as the pair are the marina's bread
and butter.

Is your radar arch removable? That might be an issue for a Lake
Champlain delivery.

It is, but why do think it may be an issue? I think there are a couple of
locks, but otherwise I'd go via the commercial shipping route.

Down the St. Lawrence through Montreal?

I'll bet it is. Those things are indestructable.

There's a freight yard over in Putnam that has a whole fleet of them.
The yard manager told me he wouldn't part with them for anything.

You actually end up going about 90 miles past Montreal and making a
right turn at a town called Sorrel into the Richleau River. That
takes you south to the St Ours and Chambly Canals, and eventually to
Lake Champlain. Interesting trip.

What are your feelings on selling her? You must have had some great times
on that boat!

You betcha and I am really torn. The problem is that this type of boat
needs to be used for long distance travel or live-aboard to justify the cost
of ownership. That was the original idea when I bought it .... travel
south during the cold winter months, living on the boat, then cruise back
north during the summer. Well, it hasn't exactly worked out to plan. I
*did* go south the first couple of years but other influences and interests
sorta impacted the master plan. Grandkids, elderly parents, horses, etc.
conflict with my simplistic idea. It really makes no sense to continue to
maintain a boat like this if it isn't being used for it's intended purpose.
If it were me alone I could easily live aboard it year round, but it's not
realistic to expect Mrs. E. to share the same level of interest or
acceptance.

Bottom line ... we voted ... I lost.

Thanks. It is a great boat. I don't often get to see it out of the water
and the hull design that you can see in the pic with the boat on the travel
lift explains the soft ride it exhibits, even in short, heavy chop.

One of the upgrades done was the installation of dual Racor fuel filters for
each tank/engine with a three-way valve to allow switching while underway
without having to shut the engine down. Although I've never experienced a
fuel problem yet, the idea of changing filters while dead in the water in
6-8 footers just doesn't get me excited.
