I wonder what your old stomping grounds look like now. Is the old
place still a marina, or did it go to cube dwellers (condos)? Been

About six months after my father died, my New Haven lawyer (a childhood
friend of mine) and I sold the marina in Milford. The group that bought
it then redeveloped the land into townhouse condos. About six months
later, we sold his main retail store on the Boston Post Road to an
investor, and about a year later, the real estate was resold and it
became a small shopping center.

We gave the little cottage we owned in Woodmont to another lifelong
friend. A couple of years later, his winter tenant had a fire and the
place burned to the ground. Well, I'm not sure that was much of a loss!
So he rebuilt a modern A-frame on the land. The lot was only 50' wide,
but it was quite long, from the street right to the beach.

There were some really fancy houses at the end of the cove that once
belonged to a famous theater family, the Poli family. They owned
theaters all over the east coast. They were bought out by Loew's and a
number of the theaters became Loew's Poli movie houses. Anyway, the
fanciest house of all, out on a point, belong to the Poli family, and
they lived in it. Beautiful mansion, with a bowling alley and a movie
theater. Last time I was back there, it had been given to a Catholic
order and there were nuns there.

The old Poli mansion is at the right of the photo, the huge house with
the pier heading out into the sound. The fancy houses that were part of
the Poli compound curve around, and about six houses or so later is the
piece of property we used to own. Well, it is in there somewhere...I
can't really tell from the photo.
