Long story short: Four adults and two children in a 16' Bayliner on the Ohio
River at 2AM Saturday in fog run into a barge. One adult and two children
dead.

The boat's operator jumps off a bridge Monday in an unsuccessful suicide
attempt.

That truely is gut-wrenchingly sad......

1. The fact that it was a Bayliner is totally irrelevant to the
tragedy..........the end result would have been the same if it were any
other brand.
2. The parents are absolute idiots and should never have been allowed
give birth and take care of children.
3. The event was indeed tragic......one that could easily have been
prevented.

According to the news story, the boat sank. That is relevant.

Most boats sink when run over by a barge. Whalers won't sink but as they
turn over in multiple pieces, the passengers without PFD's sink. That is
what is relevant.

That's right. They should have stayed where they were rather than try to
return home in dense fog without radar.
Secondly, children should always wear a PFD when on board and adults also
in dangerous conditions.

2:30 am in a 16' boat on a major river with your family is not normal, and
unsafe.

No doubt. It wasn't my intention to start a Bayliner debate.

Yeah, John Kennedy found that out.

Of course, the ship wasn't a barge, and the boat wasn't a Bayliner,
but the end result was still the same.....
