Ok. Now that we all understand and agree on the mechanics of steering a motorcycle, let's consider this situation. Twin screw inboard. No wind. Little or no current. Helm hard over to port. Starboard engine at idle Starboard transmission in "forward". Port engine at idle Port transmission in "reverse". Which way will the boat move? Eisboch Depends on how long the boat is. May not go anywhere considering engines are at idle |

Better questions a Which way will the bow move? Which way will the stern move? Eisboch |

If it's moored bow first in a slip it probably won't go anywhere |

Eisboch With the rudder in the neutral position the boat would pivot to port. With the rudder hard port one may think the boat may tend to move even more aggressively (bow) to port.........but the correct answer will probably be the bow moving to starboard. ;-) |

After seeing Jim's answer you have to understand that I *meant* to say "tend to move even less aggressively to port".......and "walking" port to starboard....... Yeah, that's the ticket! |
