With all the grumping about another retailer in a different thread, I
thought I would run the risk of "Damn Spammer!" attacks from the usual
suspects and mention an additional source for general supplies.

We have a local firm that publishes a 1300 + page catalog and ships
literally around the world to mail order customers. The company has
been around since the 1920's. The company was originally in business
strictly to supply gear to commercial fish boats, towboat companies,
etc- but has been retailing to the public for the last 25-30 years as
well.

Fisheries Supply 2006 Commercial and Industrial Marine Equipment
Catalog has a cover price of $10, but can often be picked up free at a
boat show.

The Fisheries Supply stuff is a little different than some of the
competition. If I wanted to choose from 40 different varieties of a
bogus "pirate flag" or buy a styrofoam ice chest with an anchor on the
lid, I wouldn't go to Fisheries to do so. However, if I wanted to
select from 40 different varieties of deck cleats (I just counted)
from about 10 different manufacturers Fisheries would be a great
source.
And some of the competitors push electronics a lot harder than
Fisheries does.

Pricing, in general, is about the same as other major marine
retailers.
There are few "bargains" to be had when buying boat stuff. The upside
is that it is a lot easier to qualify for a wholesale discount at
Fisheries than at some other retailers. A club can even apply for a
"bulk purchase" account and individual members then receive a discount
on every transaction.

So for anybody who would care to investigate further, the website is
www.fisheriessupply.com

I'll now go sit in the corner and let the usual suspects heap crap on
me for trying to be helpful. We all know the rules, its OK to bitch
about a company in the NG, but strictly out of bounds to mention a
company in a positive light. :-)

Thanks - I've bookmarked that one for future reference. I browsed
around and they seem to have hardware/supply stuff at a decent price.
Electronics are a little higher than other suppliers.

I found these guys to be fairly competitive in the hardware/supply
area - not so much in the electronics area though.
