Default How to Raft-Up Two Boats?

What's the trick to rafting two boats (these happen to be bowriders)
together when they are different lengths with different freeboards?

Can't seem to get it right so the two boats don't push/pull fenders out of
position and risk damage to decals or paint or ...

Summers coming. I can feel it just around the corner!

I am not a fan of rafting off, but here are 2 links with information that
may help:

Here's what I did. I keep a couple pieces of 2 ft long pvc pipe in the
boat. I pass the rope through that and tie across to the other boat with
them at two spots along the sides. Has to be about in the same spot but not
perfect. Then I create an X between them with the rest of the rope. The X
will keep either boat from moving forward or back as related to the other
boat. The pvc keeps the boats apart just enough to keep them from banging
into each other but still close enough so that you can step back and forth.
Works even with a good deal of wake around.
