My college sailing club wants to practice sailing on our Coronado 15s.
We don't have much experience. What are the best sheltered salt-water sailing locations in Los Angeles and Orange counties? |

What are the best sheltered salt-water sailing locations in Los Angeles and Orange counties? In Orange county only Newport Beach will have enough open space to practice. Huntington Harbor and Dana Point Harbor are man made marinas the are mostly dock space with tight channels connecting. The best choice is the 'inner harbor' at Long Beach/San Pedro. It's wide open and is protected by a breakwater 1-2 miles offshore. It gets choppy in windy conditions but won't develope any kind of 'swell' unless it's really ripping. Alan |
