Newsgroup poll #2

8 years ago I asked the rec.boats newsgroup to help name my retail store
outlet and I picked "Buoys & Toys" which I thought was a pretty cool
play on words at the time. In reality most people don't get it or don't
know what we actually sell (some even think it's a gay Adult Novelty
store lol)

I am once again turning to my friends (old and new) in this newsgroup to
help me rename the store to something that is unique and descriptive,
that also reflects the stock change from strictly marine to marine
supplies, Liquor, beer, and convenience items (milk, bread butter etc)

Let's have some fun with this and see if we can't pull a rabbit out of a
hat in the process. Any names you've seen at other marinas you thought
worked well too?

If I don't get something catchy soon, I'm gonna have to go with "General
Store" as a cop out this time around.

I'll save someone the first easy one - I'm not naming it Booze n Boats. :-)

The floor is yours....

You trusted a group of anonymous internet bozos to name your store last
time, and they came up with "buoys and toys", and now you're asking the same
group of bozos again?? Good luck :-)

The Lazarette

Bosun's Locker

Provisions

Brown's Grub and Gee Gaws

Brown's Tap and Barrel (maybe sounds too much like a bar)

Brown's General Store (probably the best choice)

If you include Brown in any of the names it will build credibility
among potential customers already sold on doing business with you. It
will make it clear that the building isn't merely leased to some
outside operator.

I should have told you guys/gals this is for the store only. We have a
separate marina building on the water for service, and a separate sales
location on the highway 7 miles away for boat/motor sales. In other
words, no need to include 'boats' in the description. The name is for
the store only and the "Brown's Marina" part will be listed on the sign
above the name I eventually choose.

Here's a more detailed list of items being sold:

Pop, mixes (clamato, OJ etc), chips, chocolate bars, cigars, cigarettes
Milk, bread, eggs, bacon, etc
Fishing tackle & worms
Marine supplies (life jackets, fenders, ropes, safety equipment etc)
Liquor, wine, beer
T-shirts/souvenirs
Water toys (skis, inflated towables, wakeboards, kneeboards etc)

Many thanks to those who have contributed already, I hope this new list
helps the focus a bit.

I've already gotten my money's worth on some of the humour already. ;-)

I'm hoping that elusive really catchy name is out there somewhere and
would consider a prize to the one who nails it for me. :-)

outlet and I picked "Buoys & Toys" which I thought was a pretty cool
play on words at the time.

How 'bout......... The Oarhouse?

Hopefully that would end the confusion regarding any "gay Adult
Novelty."

Unless it was a gay oarhouse.

I should have told you guys/gals this is for the store only. We have a
separate marina building on the water for service, and a separate sales
location on the highway 7 miles away for boat/motor sales. In other words,
no need to include 'boats' in the description. The name is for the store
only and the "Brown's Marina" part will be listed on the sign above the
name I eventually choose.

I offer you this -- a quote from one of Patrick O'Brian's
Aubrey/Maturin novels (The Thirteen Gun Salute p27 of the pb):

[T]he land's main function [is] to provide marine stores --
it [is] not a place for real existence. [Patrick O'Brian]

Thus, a simple "Marine Store", while not particularly funny,
might be just what you are looking for.

BTW, welcome back.
