Now, in an attempt to bring this back on topic, I have a question for
the group. A friend insists that I wash and wax my boat while before
I re-launch it for the season. How necessary is that? Will it rot if
I don't?

I wash, polish and wax my boat before it is splashed for the season.
I also wash and wax the boat most every time I take it out from mid
June to September (when the water is warm enough for me to jump in at
a shallow sandy area). If I cannot get in the water I wash the boat
at the dock before taking it out.

I may be compulsive/obsessive but I like my boat to look clean when I
take it out, even for fishing. ;-)

Yeah, my friend is like that, too. What I want to know, though, is whether
or not it's necessary to the well-being of the boat.

Do you know that more people are killed by captive deer than any other

I'd like to see a cite for that.

I heard it on a cable TV nature channel program....a Florida wildlife
officer needed to capture a deer with barbed wire in it's head to be able to
remove it. * Deer have tremendous strength in the leg and bucks can do
tremendous damage with their horns. *They do not like to be captured and
penned.

If you want to prove it right or wrong then Google is your friend and go for
it.

In the end what difference does it make? *;-)

No.

But it will look better.

I guess it all boils down to how one prefers to maintain their possessions.

It will help protect the gel coat, but if you keep your boat at a
marina with the same side to the sun all the time, you will get fading
no matter what you do.

But the gel coat will be in good shape.

Tim,
You saw a very vicious deer attack, but both the deer and the hunter
walked away. One can believe anything one wants to, and is the reason
we see so many urban legends running rampant, but if you look at the
real statistics of animal related fatalities:

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks...riskanimal.htm

Deer attacks are not even listed.

As I said, it sounded like a fact if it is repeated enough, people will
believe it.

Agreed Mr. Smithers.

I posted that because deer arn't "Bambi" they CAN be dangerous. Here
in 1994 a local kid was approaching his wounded deer, and wastrampled
to death.

I know it's not going to be on a listing of viscous animal attacks,
but it's proven. Deer may be cute, but they can be deadly.

Tim,
You are absolutely correct, all wild animals can be very dangerous,
which is one of the reasons why all wildlife experts strongly discourage
feeding wildlife food of any kind. It may make one feel all warm and
fuzzy, it might bring lots of wildlife to your backyard, it might make
for some great photo opportunities, but it is not healthy for the
animals or the humans they come into contact.
