Give us a report after you have a few miles on it. I am interested in your
initial reaction.
Speaking of that ... I have to go downstairs and use mine. I've shifted my
routine a bit. This morning was a "heavy" day with the weights and I wait
until the evening to do the cardiovascular stuff because my legs get pretty
sore from doing the leg workouts and deadlifts.

Hardly. I don't have enough time left on this earth. Weight lifting is a
highly recommended exercise in addition to a cardiovascular workout to
increase your metabolic rate and helps to stabilize your weight with less
body fat and more (heavier) lean muscle. At least that's the current
theory.

If your knees can handle the treadmill, they should be able to handle the

moderate amount. Too little and my coordination and timing gets messed up.

Try adding a daily dose of Glucosamine HCL(1,500 mg) and Chondroitin (!,200
mg) twice/day (2 tablets each time). This combination is designed to
lubricate the bone joints.

Both my wife and I have used this for the past 2 months and we have both
noticed an improvement in our joint pain and flexibility. We use the
Costco /Kirtland brand.

Yes, there are side effects and you will notice them when you sit on the
porcelain throne. There are recent studies that concluded that G&C did
not demonstrably help with joint lubrication. Also, hyaluronic acid
which is present in your joints cannot be absorbed in your digestive
system and make its way to your joints. The only way to get hyaluronic
acid to your joint is by injection.

Have to go out and drain some gas from the boat and fill SWMBO's car. Her
tank is only 1/2 full and has to go for foot MRI in the morning. Need to
probably get a 50 gallon drum as boat is almost full (67 gallons) and I need
to change the tank. Tank is on order so should be here is a week or so.
Figure her car and a couple of 5 gallon cans and I can fit it in a 50 gallon
drum. I drive a diesel, so that is out.

I hate to tell you this, but the improvement is mostly in your
head.

G&C has been proved not effectual in testing and actually
does nothing for your joints. The only way to improve
joint lubrication is to inject hyaluronic acid or a new
type of biological compound whose name escapes me
at the moment.

For minor arthritis, which is an inflamation, asprin or
other pain relief usually works better. For arthritis like
I have, the treatments get intensive and expensive.

There are studies that show varying degrees of effectiveness against OA,
but the U.S. National Institute of Health in a large double blind study
did not see any improvement over the placebo. The kicker is even if it
is ALL a placebo effect, it really doesn't matter to those who are in
less pain, which is why many doctors and the Arthritis Foundation
continue to recommend it for mild to moderate OA. Why mess with
success, no matter what the reason.

There are hundreds of studies that say otherwise. My doctor also recommends
it. ;-)

Not really. It's more likely the placebo effect.

Which, by the way, is a perfectly valid treatment if it works.

The mind is an odd organ - there is a mind-over-matter
component to it.

However, working against double-blind studies, it's a
50/50 proposition which basically means it's effective
if you believe it to be effective.

Nothing wrong with that.

Tom,
The mind does have the amazing ability to play a major factor in healing
the body. Some people fail to understand that that is a positive thing.

If your knees can handle the treadmill, they should be able to handle

I hate to tell you this, but the improvement is mostly in your
head.

G&C has been proved not effectual in testing and actually
does nothing for your joints. The only way to improve
joint lubrication is to inject hyaluronic acid or a new
type of biological compound whose name escapes me
at the moment.

For minor arthritis, which is an inflamation, asprin or
other pain relief usually works better. For arthritis like
I have, the treatments get intensive and expensive.

Synvisc, made from Chicken Cockscombs. Expensive, but mine has lasted 6
years.

I'd prefer to have my knees rubbed with gently heated extra-virgin olive
oil by three or four extra-carefully selected non-virgin masseuses. I'm
sure I'd feel much better after such treatment.

The guys might not like you either.

Who said they were female virgins? maybe martyrs that preceded the new one.

How much money do you spend a month on G&C? Save the money for your
eventual knee replacements.

If taken early enough, before major damage is done, I'm convinced
glucosamine works. While studies on humans have shown conflicting
results, glucosamine therapy has been used on pets, with much success, for
years. I've yet to see any studies showing pets understanding a placebo
effect. ;-)
