All you have to do to get rid of most of the useless slime here is for
usenet to require that real names and IPs be used in posting. That would
be the end of at least 90% of them.

Yep...shine the light of day into the dark crevices.

You both take usenet far too seriously, but I would suggest that using a
"real name" could lead to truly serious complications. Besides the
annoyance of additional spam, more than one person has been the victim of
identity theft due to online activities. Then there are the even more
serious issues, stalkers, pedophiles, etc. Using your real name flies in
the face of all online recommendations, and is basically stupid.

Whatever.

Nowadays, I just stuff the a**holes into my Bozo Bin.

As of this morning, the following boys are playing with each other in the

allota fagina
.
M15
US CVNS
Montgomery Scott
Not Me
John Herring
Fredo
Reggie in all his known false IDs
Charles
Dan Krueger
Elvez
Bert Robbins
Screw you
Jackoff
whoamInot
JB

It only takes a couple secs to stuff the latest a**hole in there.

Thanks Harry! You *are* the man!

Change the **or** to an "and", and I would agree.

Anything worth saying is worth saying well.

Really? Cite examples.
I want to see the "TOS" for rec.boats or for any other USENET newsgroup.

Most USENET newsgroups have a charter that outlines what is and is not
acceptable to post in the group. Unfortunately, rec.boats does not
have a charter. So really, there is no such thing as an off topic
post in rec.boats. Anything goes.

How do you enforce acceptable and not acceptable for USENET charters
that were written and approved, by vote of the UUNet/Internet masses 20
years ago.

Do you remember the Richard Depew(sp?) incident of the early 90's?

Now, your ISP probably (most do) have a TOS that spells out a lot of
things you can't do. You should check your individual ISP's TOS.

Only if you are threatening someone. If you are just being an asshole
then they won't do anything.

Well, no. It's actually a lot more than that that can get you cut
off. It all depends on if enough people complain to your ISP that
you're breaking your TOS. As for what's in the TOS, check yours since
they're all different. I have Verizon, and here's mine:

http://www2.verizon.net/policies/tos.asp?

In particular, check out near the bottom, Attachment A, Acceptable Use
Policy, paragraph 3. Yours may be similar.

The people that continuously post "off topic" stuff in this newsgroup
are lucky there isn't a charter and that nothing is technically off
topic here. If they did that in a group that has a charter, like
rec.boats.cruising for example, and were Verizon customers, their
service could be cut because you are not allowed to "(g) to post
information on newsgroups which is not in the topic area or charter
(e.g. off-topic posting) of the newsgroup;".

Of course, I'm sure Verizon wouldn't do anything unless the violations
were frequent and flagrant. Then again, that describes some people
here.

Thanks. Rumors of my demise? Wow. Well, I just don't have the time
anymore to post as much as I used to. And with the turn this group
has taken, it's not really worth it anyway. Plus, I sold 2 of my
boats last year. Now the only way I have to get on the water is the
little Zodiac inflatable with a small outboard that used to be the
tender for the big boat. But even that's still fun.

Of course, if you post using your name, then it's perfectly acceptable to
post any sort of slimey insult you like!

If you filter out the trash from these posters, you'll have a more

Harry posted his comment and his "list" just to get a rile out of
everyone on his "list". He is upset since he no longer can post 100's
of insult a day responding to OT posts, I try ignore his comments
because it is the only thing that really ****es him off.

I think most folks laugh at the idea of Harry having a 'list' at all. His
ego wouldn't let him.

You should try to give him support. He is a really neat guy.

John... you seem desperate to get Harry's attention. If you try being nice,
you may even get another invite out on his boat.
just think...you'd have a 'captive audience' out there on the Bay a couple
miles offshore.

My gosh, Don! Who is more complimentary of the fine young man? When was the
last time you told Harry what a neat guy he was?

You know, I really think you'd bitch and whine if someone ****ed in your
beer.

Good grief. Herring is really obsessed with me. He knows the area in which
I live...maybe I should move before I'm the victim of a right-wing
drive-by.

Oh oh! Another 'Tuuk' in the making!
