Jim, my ISP is a local guy who isn't affiliated with anyone, really.

He's a farmer, who has the ISP on the side. in fact I get wireless for
free. Well, I souldn't say "free" . it's actually "bartered" I get
wireless, and I fix his tracter starters etc. it's really a win-win
situation. But it's bare necessities.

Chuck, you have a point there.

Presently I'm posting on my work computer, and its still on Windows98.
while at home I have XP. maybe thats a difference, but the "new"
Google format seems more friendly on this old clunker, than it doe's at
home.

I don't know why, but on this box the "new" seems like the "old"
format.

hmmmm.

I'm also very computer unsavy. I confess.

JimH I will investigate Outlook Express, and have my 16 yr. old
daughter see if she can line me up with it.

Who is your ISP?

BTW: OE is included with Windows operating systems including XP.

I use Google, but I'm a serious neanderthal when it comes to computing.
I use a computer because they have replaced typewriters, and because
they are dominating the field of casual communication. The average
12-year old knows more than most adults about computers, and the
average 9-year old knows more than I do.

Try collapsing the list of threads on the left hand side. That makes
the posts a lot more readable. Trying to display both at once seems to
put the posts into a one-column format, and it is tedious to read 3-4
words and then have to drop a line for the rest of the phrase.

Give it 3-4 days and it will probably seem normal. I was put off by the
change initially, but sometimes it can be easy to be put off merely
because something *has* changed, even if with a bit of practice and
experience it will become evident that the change was for the better.

In another thread, same subject, are some url's for free versions of Agent.
I've been using Agent 1.91 for years and find it meets all my requirements
very well. It *does* have email, although I use MS Outlook for email. Try
it, you may like it!

Stolen from PhantomMan's post:

"Free Agent is still available. The last standalone version is 1.21
IIRC, available he
http://freepctech.com/rode/018.shtml

Later versions also available in places like:
http://mirrors.easynews.com//agent/f...agent/english/

The only option I miss with Free Agent is "Mail".... maybe filter
capabilty too. But it beats the hell outta trying to read
Googlegroups, that's for sure."

Hey Rick! I definitely apologize for that horrible misnomer!

But, if 'Phant' isn't short for 'Phantom', what's it short for?

LoL! It's a nickname I picked up locally that has to do with my last
name (Fant) :-)

Bubba News charges $3.95 to register but
free after that. So far I've been happy with them. I don't know what
the capacity for the free service is, prolly not much (they offer
higher limits with their "pay" service), but I don't do binaries so
I've never hit their "free" limit.

-Update-
I hit their limit this morning (apparently just downloading headers
counts). But I still have no clue what their limit is. I've looked
over their website, I've emailed them and asked, but so far no
response. If anyone here knows, or knows how I can find out, feel free
to share please.
Thanks,
Rick
